Love Sports? Spend one Summer in Paris

Paris is well-known as the city of love, but do you know that this year 5 major sports events take place there during the summer? It’s a festival of emotions, adrenaline, wine and champagne. A 6-month competition between the biggest names in tennis, hockey, cycling and horsing.

Paris Marathon: 9 April

Over 50,000 runners compete on the streets of Paris every year. The race starts on the Champs-Élysées and finishes at the Arc de Triomphe. Last year, the Ethiopian runner Kenenisa Bekele set a record route time of 2h 05 min which is undoubtedly impressive. Instead of drinking a glass of wine (which is always a good option in Paris), why not take part of the marathon? Healthy body – good living 🙂


Ice Hockey World Championships: 5 May – 21 May

Canadians love the time between these 16 days. Why? Because on Ice Hockey competitions, Canada are always the favourites for winning it. They’re the current World Champions, but in this sport you never know what will happen…


Roland Garros – 22 May – 11 June

Be ready to get excited from the very first second of this tennis tournament. The French Open always pumps the adrenalin of the spectators featuring the biggest names in this sport – Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and more. Not to mention when the local favourites Gael Monfils, Jo-Wilfred-Tsonga and Richard Gasquet get on the stage, the crowd just goes CRAZY. Even if you don’t watch this sport, Roland Garros won’t disappoint you!


Tour de France: 23 July

The Crown of the cycling tournaments takes places around France for three weeks. Annually it is visited from thousands on the streets and infront of the TV’s billions of people follow this amazing competition. Last year’s winner Chris Froome of Team Sky will be hoping to repeat his stellar performance. But Australian Richie Porte and Colombian Nairo Quintana are also serious contenders to watch.


Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe: 30 September — 1 October

If you are a fan of watching horses, betting and drinking champagne at the same time, you would definately enjoy the tame in the Hippodrome de Chantilly. Called “the greatest horse race in the world, the tournament is a lovely finish of your holiday during the summer.
